Top 5 CBD Myths Busted!

CBD is here, and its popularity is shooting through the roof. Millions of people are now taking CBD as part of their healthy lifestyle. It’s a naturally occurring chemical found in the Cannabis family of plants, and has very recently has started being sold in the form of oils, balms, edibles amongst others.

Given the plant that it’s extracted from, it’s only natural that there are going to be assumptions made about CBD as a supplement. However, we’re here to inform the masses about some of the more popular myths regarding CBD, and see if there is any truth to them!

Cannabis Plants in the Sunlight

CBD Oil Is Illegal

False. Here in the UK, CBD products are most certainly legal. All CBD sold in the UK has been extracted from Hemp, which has been legal to grow with a license since 1993. The only stipulation is that the Hemp has a THC concentration of less than 0.2%.

So, if you’re thinking about purchasing any CBD products here in the UK, then rest assured that you’re not going to be breaking any laws!

CBD Oil Comes From Marijuana

False. At least here in the UK. All CBD Oil sold in the UK comes from Hemp, which is a member of the Cannabis family of plants. Hemp is not the same as Marijuana, although they belong to the same family of plants. Marijuana is illegal in the UK, so retailers and manufacturers are not permitted to sell any product that has been derived from Marijuana.

CBD Will Get You High

False. CBD is non-psychoactive so it won’t give you the “high” associated with Marijuana.

CBD Does Nothing

False. While we're bound by industry regulations as to the claims we can make about CBD, many retailers are selling CBD products that have nowhere near the levels of Cannabidiol they say they have. In some extreme cases, some products have zero CBD in them. Rest assured, all products you find on Vital Herb are thoroughly tested and vetted before we put them on our site, ensuring you receive the best.

CBD Oil and Medical Marijuana Are The Same

False. CBD Oil is available ‘over-the-counter’ at many retailers, and contains CBD extracted from Hemp. The Hemp that was grown was done so with a maximum THC concentration of 0.2%.

Medical Marijuana is only available on prescription through the NHS, and even then, as a last resort once all other options have been tried. At time of writing, obtaining Medical Marijuana through the NHS is unlikely, as GPs and other health professionals simply haven’t had the training necessary to prescribe it safely.

The substance itself will have been extracted from Marijuana, and as such will contain THC. Naturally then, the “high” will be a side effect of any health benefits it may offer, in the same way that drowsiness might be a side effect of cough medicine for example.

With these things in mind, it’s important to note that CBD Oil and Medical Marijuana aren’t the same thing.
